By using PermitGuide (“the Service”), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
2. Nature of the Service
PermitGuide is an informational tool that provides general guidance on Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) building permit requirements for residential construction projects. The Service is intended to help you understand whether a permit may be required based on publicly available HRM bylaws.
PermitGuide does not constitute a permit approval, a permit application, legal advice, or an official determination from Halifax Regional Municipality.
3. Accuracy Disclaimer
We make reasonable efforts to keep our rule database current with HRM bylaws. However:
- Bylaws are subject to amendment without notice.
- Zone-specific regulations and recent bylaw amendments may not be reflected immediately.
- Results are based on the information you provide. Incorrect or incomplete input will produce incorrect results.
- Complex projects, variances, heritage properties, or properties subject to development agreements may have requirements not captured by this Service.

4. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, PermitGuide and its operators shall not be liable for any loss, damage, fine, penalty, stop-work order, or other consequence arising from your reliance on the results provided by this Service.
The Service is provided “as is” without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
5. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
- Attempt to abuse, overload, or reverse-engineer the Service
- Misrepresent results from this Service to any third party as an official HRM determination
6. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Nova Scotia and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Nova Scotia.

We may revise these Terms at any time. The “Last updated” date reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the Service constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
